SEAN PETTIS|FILMMAKER

FILMS AS MEMORIES

Sean has been active as an experimental filmmaker in California's Bay Area for over 20 years. His films have won awards at Oscar-qualifying film festivals and played for audiences throughout the world. His goal is to imbue his films with elements of philosophy and psychology that pertain to the characters and their predicaments. Although Sean maintains his love for film and analogue mediums, he also has embraced AI at specific moments in his career, frequently referring to AI as the "collective unconscious of all humanity throughout all of history."

While writing, Sean often uses a system of method writing, similar to method acting, where he immerses himself in the world he's creating to better understand his characters. "Stories that are relevant at any time in history are most interesting to me. I don't think there's a more effective way to understand human nature than by assessing the stories they continue to tell year after year. In sharing stories that audience members can interpret in different ways, I hope they will connect to the characters on a personal level and be inspired to think introspectively." - Sean
